The Year in Photos: Philadelphia 2012

image

2012 was a great year for Philadelphia on a couple of fronts, the city gained numerous accolades on the tourism end, and our food scene made national headlines. Although not everything is peachy keen (the income disparity and unemployment being major issues), there was a lot of positive momentum that those who live and work in the city can be proud of.

Photography is powerful; with the rise of instagram local amateurs stepped up and started appreciating the city via their photographs and projects like Philly Love Notes added to the afore mentioned positive momentum.

Some of my favorite photos were taken in the first half of the year, the summer was especially fun; wandering around and discovering many interesting nooks around Northern Liberties and taking in some of the great architecture around West Philadelphia were highlights. After the jump 35 of my favorite snap shots of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Feastival 2012

Feastival returned this year more decadent than ever! The chefs from some of the most acclaimed restaurants in the city pulled out all the stops with luxurious menu ingredients (foie gras being a star ingredient); and crowds were entertained by high flying acrobatics while sipping on drinks mixed by some of the best bars in town. A very memorable evening that was a feast for the senses.

Classic Car Show

Having grown up and lived in a city most of my life, driving was never a big priority of mine; I tend to walk everywhere or use public transportation if needed. However seeing the design and details that went into these cars kinda made me understand why in decades past Americans were so obsessed with cars. Look at them they’re fast and beautiful! I don’t much about cars, but I appreciate great design details.

The food scene in Philly is buzzing; as with sports some people can discuss their favorite restaurants and chefs like they would teams and players.
There are a ton of places to try, and new ones keep popping up every month; it can be a bit daunting so here we have A little taste; a fun and affordable way to experience the growing number of restaurants and bars in Philly.
A. Kitchen was just voted Best of Philly for their wine list; however I was encouraged by their solid whiskey list and ordered, The Moravian. It came in a small glass, but it packed a nice punch and wonderfully balanced flavors. It was a refreshing choice on the super humid day that was this past Friday.
I encourage you all to go out and give a restaurant or bar you haven’t tried before a little taste.
